Dear Gearheads,

As I write this, the team is hard at work putting together the rollercoaster cinematic experience that is Gears of War®.

Words cannot express how excited we are to bring you a new universe on this phenomenal new platform. You—the gamers and fans—have been there with us every step of the way. From our unveiling at last year’s E3, to the Tokyo Game Show, to X05 and Zero Hour, we’ve been reading about how excited you all are about Gears of War.

We’re just as excited to deliver the game to you. We feel we’re giving you the next evolution of cover combat in a fantastical setting that you’ll be able to enjoy with a friend, be it locally or over Xbox Live®.

I hope the information provided on this website whets your appetite and might just give you a few pointers on how to survive on Sera. Emergence Day is closing in on us. The ground is about to shatter. The Locust are ready to attack. Will you be?

Sincerely,

CliffyB

Epic's standard answer across the board to that question has always been "When it's done."

It has always been widely rumored that it'll be out in time for this holiday.

Re: Official Gears of War site up

Is this just going to be a 360 exclusive thing?

Is it a 3rd person thing?  I don't much cotton to 3rd person things.  Oni was the notable exception.  And, I guess that first Tomb Raider for Mac that came out in the 90s.  Other than that 3rd person is the down.

Give Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory a try. But make sure you play the Xbox or PC versions. The Gamecube and PS2 versions were gimped pretty badly.

Yuppers and supply is still short.

As far as I know/can tell this game has always been a FPS. First Person Shooter

My reason for asking is that none of the trailer seemed to show a first person perspective.  3rd person perspective shooting games have always felt a bit clunky to me.  But that's a personal opinion/preference thing, I realize.

There is like a 2 second bit where you get to see the 1st person view. One week we'll know more during E3.

:EDIT:
Well in the last vid post here Cliffy confirms and says "3rd person shooter". My bad...

Possible Spoilers and NOT Work Safe...adult lang. and a bit of gore.

Gamespy Vid: Shows more of that over shoulder view...

More...in game footage: More of the over shoulder...I guess this is how it is but there is a bit where the player zooms in for a truer FPS view. Maybe it can be turned on and off...or it a button push ala CoD's iron site aiming.

13 min of in game...demo from Toyko show

Cliffy confirms 3rd person shooter

Re: Official Gears of War site up

See edit above...more in game vid footage. And Cliffy's confermation of 3rd person shooter but there are times the camera zooms for a FPS view.
