The PPC Sucks!! Who's with me?
You know why everyone's so blown away by how fast these macintels are with pentium 4's in them? It's because the PowerPC just sucks. Period. It has always sucked. I utterly DO NOT CARE what Apple says, mhz does matter. It matters when doing basic tasks.
It's the same reason why OS X has always been a little sluggish, why game performance on the mac has always sucked, and why web browsing on the mac has always been slower than the pc. At first I thought it was because OS X was bloated and unoptimized, but after reading reports of people saying these macIntels with pentium 4's in them are starting up in seconds, now I see that it wasn't OS X. It wasn't OS X at all. It was that damn IBM PowerPC that Apple has been so obsessed with over the years just because it runs 'photoshop' well.......OOOOOO I'm sooo scared!!! Who really cares about photoshop? I know I don't.
Now let's talk about games. When the mac lags behind pcs in game performance no matter WHAT video card it has, it's not because of the traditional excuses like for example: "the mac ports of the game are unoptimized for the mac" or "the mac versions run in openGL which is slower than direct3D on the pc". No. It's not because of any of those reasons, it's simply because the PowerPC just sucks. The only reason why the PowerPC has ever beaten Intel processors in benchmarks is because WINDOWS was holding the pentium 4 back. But on a level playing field, the pentium 4 is a superior processor and that is clearly demonstrated with these new macIntel's running OS X. I mean, they are using pentiums for crying out loud. I thought they were harmless?
Now I realize that after reading this post, there will still be people that won't quite be ready to let go of the delusion that the PowerPC doesn't suck, and this crowd will probably be made up mostly of people who have recently invested a large sum of money on a new PowerPC based mac. Unfortunately, that is utterly not my problem, so don't bother posting if you don't agree.

I really don't care if I have the fastest computer in the world or not. What matters is the OS. When my productivity starts to decrease because I'm using such an old computer and the software I utilize needs more power backing it, I'll buy a new computer that suits my needs.
And as for the PPC sucking. Lets see you design a better processor. What's that you say? You don't know how? Well, I guess if you think it sucks and you can't do better, then you suck. Ooo. Yeah that's right, I said it. Nothing is stopping you from buying a machine with a better processor.
So I guess to sum things up, I really do not care.

It has nothing to do with the G5. OpenGL isn't fully optimized yet (Yes apple has lagged a bit behind). Games can not talk directly to gpu they have to go thru OpenGL first for everything (its on apples to do list in the optimizing). Until OpenGL gets finished and optimized macs will always lack behind in gaming.
