Absolutely wonderful Japanese platform game with incredible design and attention to detail. They should charge money for this thing, but it's a free download. It's one of THOSE good games. GET IT!

Would anyone mind hosting the English patched file? Whatever I try I can't get the thing to patch it.

The Mac patch is named "DoukutsuEnglishPatchMac.tar"

This unpacks as a folder named "Doukutsu English Patch" which contains a ReadMe file along with Doukutsu English Patch.app

According to the ReadMe file, you need to copy "Doukutsu.app" off of the disk image into your applications folder (or anywhere on your hard disk) BEFORE you try to patch it. Once you've moved the game, THEN drag it onto the English patch application.

All this worked just fine for me.

Now for my problem: when I start the game, I can't figure out what key to press to get past the "New" or "Load" screen. Up and Down allow me to move the little guy up or down to these two options, but what do I press to "select" that option? Until I work that out, the game just plays this annoying little song, waiting for me to have a brainwave.

I tried every key until I found that 'Z' does what Return should do. 'K' or 'down arrow' is the 'action' key, for opening stuff and talking. When you find the gun, shoot it with 'X'.

the keys are as follows:

q - items
w - map (you have to find it first)
a - first weapon (first you have to find more than one weapon)
s - second weapon (first you have to find more than one weapon)
z - jump / select
x - shoot (first you have to find a gun)

down - go through doors, interact with people/ objects, etc.
left - go left
right - go right
(numpad keys also work for directional keys)

tab - toggles fullscreen

there may be other keys that i haven't discovered yet.

Reminds me of a mixture of several popular Nintendo games - Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.

All the other disks are set just above head height, so I can't walk over and click "down" to activate it as I do with the first, spinning disk at the beginning. Also, has anyone worked out how to skip tedious dialogue? I'm really tired of hearing how hungry the brother is, ready to eat cockroaches, etc.

I think holding down Z might make dialog go faster. O'course I can't work how to progress beyond finding the first Life Capsule.

Those disks mean if you enter that room, there is a save point there.

Gum or Gun?

If it's the gun room, you can make your way back to the start and shoot through the blocks on the right that you couldn't get through before.

If it's the gum room, I'm afraid I really can't help you.

Ok, what you need to do is go back left a couple of screens to the flesh cake lake. Talk to the old man and agree to a massage to get the fishing rod. Use the rod in the lake to catch 3 golden troutmen. The best place to do this is on the lower platform over on the left, otherwise the eared pie heron constantly circles knocking you off the platform into the water (Also a good idea to buy the breather mask from the dog child over in the village). Once you have the three troutmen, take them back to the door by the TV and push down to release them, one by one, until they form a vague key shape (this might require you to rub your knee a little) which enables you to open the door. Immediately move to the right as the door opens or a small man with a beard will ensnare you in his botty cress causing the loss of one life. You did save over by the bun tree in misty bread forest, didn't you?
