The father of a member here commited suicide today
I just found that a friend of mine, and a member here, just lost his father to suicide. He didn't tell me this himself, but I found out through another friend of mine who also knows him, thoough he doesn't frequent these forums anymore. I can't even imagine how hard this must be on his family. All that's left is who I met at the Apple Store a few months ago: him, his mom, and his younger sister. This friend of mine is pretty young, only fourteen. From what I've heard today his father was depressed. All this comes to me as a huge surprise. I really feel so sorry for them. Someone in my church recently committed suicide too and the son of one of my mom's friends threatened suicide for the second time last week. I don't think we'll be seeing much of Fried Chicken for a few weeks now.
Edit: He just got on IM and gave me the "OK" to reveal the name.

You're talking about {name removed}'s dad? Wow. That's harsh. His brother is a member here too.
That sucks.
But I'm not sure that you should be posting this thread with his name in it...

No, jeapdea lives in Alaska but this friend of mine lives in Texas. I don't know whether or not I should put his name either, but I sent him an email mentioning this thread to him, and told him that if he wanted this thread deleted (or changed) I would gladly do so. I think I have his phone number around here somewhere but now would probably be a bad time to call.

I concur, I'd rather they remain anonymous until they've given you the ok. You can edit it back yourself if they do so.

Thanks bb, I was going to change it myself but had to go make supper.
Edit: They are not brothers, TheConfuzed1 was getting my friend mixed up with someone else.

Re: The father of a member here commited suicide today
My best friends father committed suicide. I knew him and the family (they were neighbores) for 20 years when it happened and was close to them (we did sleep overs all the time at each others houses when young). His father was a Reverend and his wife was leaving him. His wife moved out of their house a month prior. My best friends younger brother found their father in the basement, shotgun blast to the chest.
Anyone who commits suicide pisses me off terribly. Its a very selfish and cowardly act.

My dad is the one who died. Bullet to the head. Thsi is completely insane.
Now, my Dad's brother was here last week, and just yesterday he went back home. Now he's coming back.
This is a horrible situation. Crap, it's terrible. I'm not sure what to do for the future.

Well, you know you can always come here for advice. You also know how bloody useless most of it is, but we'll be here for you, in our way. My mom died when I was nineteen. Cancer, not a suicide, but it still left me with a lot of "oh, swell, what now?" kind of questions.

You persevere. Eventually the pain will subside and you'll feel able to go on with your life. You have my deepest condolences.

This is hard, and I'm glad I can come to MAF for help. I just hope there aren't any jerks here.
If you're a jerk, please shut up now.

Sam, I know I already linked you to this via IM but this is for anyone else who might end up or knows someone who has wound up in a similar situation.

If I prayed, I too would hold you in my prayers.
However, I don't buy into that stuff, so I'll just wish you well and say that if you need someone to talk to, even though you don't even know me, I'm here for ya.
