"Gay penguins" for those who may be interested

Here is a "gay penguin" news report. And no...I am not implying that there are a lot of gays here, but I do wonder sometimes smile

I thought this was about Linux users - there are a lot of gay people in the *nix community.

I saw something about "gay" penguins on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360.

Re: "Gay penguins" for those who may be interested

As much fun as it would be to turn yet another thread into an XYZ debacle (not!), I do think the article Ra has pointing to is interesting. For those who are not link clickers:

Gay penguins won't go straight

A German zoo's plans to tempt its gay penguins to go straight by importing more females has been declared a failure.

The female penguins were flown in especially from Sweden in an effort to encourage the Humboldt penguins at the Bremerhaven Zoo to reproduce. But the six homosexual penguins showed no interest in their new female companions and remained faithful to each other. Zoo Director Heike Kueck said: "The relationships were apparently too strong." A keeper confirmed that the male couples had adopted rocks which they were guarding like eggs in their caves.

The zoo has said that it will try again in Spring 2006, because the penguins are an endangered species and need to be encouraged to breed.

Damn it, those penguins are trying to start long term, stable relationships and those damn zookeepers keep wanting them to bust up. This is much like the gay marriage (we want our relationships recognized) vs Amendment change (like hell, heterosexuality is the ONLY acceptable way) in a nutshell. Sort of.

Except this is sort of funny because penguins are funny.

Go penguins!

Re: "Gay penguins" for those who may be interested

If the gay penguins have been adopting rocks - couldn't they steal eggs from the straight penguins, causing them to double clutch, and giving the gay penguins real eggs to hatch?

That would seem to be better utilization of the females - since it is an endangered species.

Gay penguins being allowed to adopt?!? Gay penguins can't be parents!! What the hell is wrong with you?!? You need a female and a male penguin to have parents! Otherwise, the little penguin chicks will grow up to be gay and their little penguin friends will laugh at them and cause them stress. No, extinction is the better choice. NO GAY ADOPTION!!

Silly gozer, they're animals and we're humans. You can't compare our behavior to behavior in nature. Only atheist evolutionists who think we're no bettter than animals do that.

but geesie, now i'm confused. on one hand there are these gay penguins which are obviously from nature. on the other hand, i've had people say on good authority that homosexual relations are against nature, and anyone having them is rebelling against nature. whom am i to trust? or are both arguments as equally full of smurf?

Well, they are trying to "raise" rocks, after all.

I would argue that since no penguins, rocks, or potential toasters are harmed through these unions, then they should be legal, which would at least give equal rights to toasters and rocks seeking affordable healthcare.

It's kind of funny that nobody sees the problem that they aren't breeding and the species is endangered.
I guess we can just clone some more.

I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

We'll just give them all condoms, HIV testing and have them adopt.

They're obviously mimicing hte behavior of the gay zookeepers.  Another instance of man wrecking natural phenomena.

Homosexuality occurs in nature, but is it still disordered and unnatural.

Disordered is natural.  Systems tend toward maximum entropy.  Does homosexuality therefore agree with the laws of thermodynamics?

I imagine those penguins were raised together at the zoo since they were hatched, so they could not develop both paternal and maternal behavior, except for trying to hatch rocks. However, it has been shown that penguins will treat any object as an egg. I watched such a show at PBS a few months ago. The scientists would swap an egg with a fake, and the penguin would just try to hatch that one. It seems that both the female and male go through a "coupling" cycle, followed by a hatching cycle, interrupted by a feeding cycle. The female will hand the egg to the male so she can go to the ocean and feed for quite a long time, while the male continues hatching the egg.
