Re: Buymusic's sales figures???
man a 128 Mp3 is pure unbridles crap. You get high end swirling/swashing, which is the most noticeable drawback, plus other misc problems..

Dig on this:
tingilinde thing[/url]"]The quality of the music is variable. Some of it sounded fine, but one file was incomplete (buying it again indicated that the file was indeed broken) and two others sounded wrong -- like poor mp3 copies. I suspect conversions were done in batch without human monitoring (having done this sort of thing before for commercial quality).

I'm flattered. I still won't go out with you, though. At least, not until the operation is final.

Re: Buymusic's sales figures???
I wrote Bob "Dr. Mac" LeVitus about article and BuyMusics censoring actions. Here is a simple and down to earth excerpt from the end of his response:
It would just like to comment that since your article about
buymusic.com, the site is no longer even viewable on a Macintosh
without going through hoops to view it. This site is becoming more a
retaliation than a service to consumers.
Yes. Apparently they blocked _all_ Mac browsers after my column ran.
That's too bad, Windows users can really use a good music service.
I agree. But BuyMusic isn't it. Apple should hurry up and finish iTunes for Windows...
Regards,
Bob "Dr. Mac" LeVitus
That pretty much sums it up.

You make it sound like a weapon! Remember the sonic tanks from Dune II: Battle For Arakkis?
...Sega Genesis...Real-Time Strategy game...no? Ugh....
heh, I had completely forgot about Dune II. I used to play it on emulator, and I have Dune 2000 for PSX (which is basicly the same game but with better graphics. same interface, same units, same story line, same missions.)
And yah, ive been to buymusic.com on my dads PC, complete crap it is, and the commercials are WAY worse then Apple's ever were

Forget the links to the ads, I want links to the "how to" section. The words that go with those expressions need to be heard.

Aw man, that Tommy Lee commercial pisses me off, it's the kind of thing that makes you want to see them go down in flames.

Yeah...couple that with the blocking of non Windows-IE users to the site, the use of WMV, lack of iPod support, inconsistent licensing for songs, nonsensical pricing for some items ($9.95 for an EP with three songs on it!), privacy violating and outright foul privacy policy, and ridiculous song licensing (you only receive a sub-license, the different "primary" and "secondary" licenses, and inability to transfer your license), seeing Buy's CEO Scoot Bum hauling the servers for BuyMusic down to the landfill within the next year is highly likely.

Or, perhaps the guitar in the Tommy Lee ad looks, remarkably similar to this guitar:

The worst of this theft-via-fine-print is well hidden: You can't back up or transfer your licenses to these songs, so if your hard drive dies or you sell the PC, your music dies, too.
Now THAT REALLY SUCKS IT!

Re: Buymusic's sales figures???
A quick estimate: BuyMusic's Chief Egg Nog Scott Blum seems to have catapulted himself into 4th place on my Mac Doghouse list after Billy Boy, Monkey Boy, Mikey Dell, but ahead of the Department of Homeland Security's IT division.
And now this from USA Today and MacMinute:
USA Today reports that early BuyMusic.com customers have found they can't transfer purchased tracks to their portable digital music players. ..... But BuyMusic's tracks have started out as unplayable, even on portables lent to the press in a promotional blitz," notes the publication..... USA Today also notes that BuyMusic will not release its first week's download figures, but "it's not millions," Blum said. As you may recall, the iTunes store sold over one million songs in its first week and 6.5 million since April.

Man, they really stalled coming out of the gate. Go read the whole story at USA Today.
BuyMusic.com's tech support staff was of little help when contacted Thursday. An e-mail response read: ''We are unable to provide technical assistance after you have downloaded the music . . . to your primary computer. In addition, we are unable to credit you back for failed or damaged copies once you have successfully downloaded the music.''
Ouch.

What's almost as bad is the fact that you have to log-in each and every time before playing any song (logging in once is not enough)

Seriously? I'm not saying you are lying, but I would like a source for this... this would be a great slap in the face for a few of my PeeCee stroking friends...

Frankly, I don't buy it. I think it's a one-time log in, but it is done on a per song basis, that's definite.
